pc was running fine then turned off hi all,
my pc was running fine. i was playing a game for a few hours. i then left the room for a few mins n when i returned to my pc it had shut down. i tried to turn it bk on and nothin. no fans leds nothin. i unplugged everything for a min then plugged bk in and retried to power up. nothing....so i unplugged everythin again n went to bed. then this morning i plugged everythin bk in hit the power switch n guess wot. it booted up with the usual options after an unexpected shut down. safe mode, safe mode with netwrk n so on.
so i booted into safe mode n all was fine.
my thinking is that it could have been a short or something so ive gone all through my cables n cant find anything......any suggestions folks???
thanks in advance, any help is always apreciated

Do you have the power cord plugged into a surge protector? Sounds like you got a power spike and got real lucky. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 Memory GSkill 4 X 2 GB PC 8500 Graphics Card XFX Radeon HD 6790 D Sound Card On board RealTek HD Monitor(s) Displays Dual monitors:Samsung SyncMaster S20B300 Screen Resolution 1600 X 900 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Razor DeathAdder PSU Ultra X4 750 watt fully modular Case Thermaltake Overseer RX 1 full tower Cooling Core-Contact 92 mm CPU Cooler Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 1TB (primary)

Has this happened before? I would definitely keep an eye on this, if it's reoccurring then it's some sort of hardware problem causing the shut down. If so, I would start looking at PSU, CPU and Mobo first. With these it's so hard to actually pinpoint the specific piece of hardware causing the problem.
Note: surge protectors do and can go bad. It's recommend to change them out every 2 or 3 years, if I remember correctly and don't skimp on them either. You have to look at them as an integral part of your system, which is almost always over looked. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 Memory GSkill 4 X 2 GB PC 8500 Graphics Card XFX Radeon HD 6790 D Sound Card On board RealTek HD Monitor(s) Displays Dual monitors:Samsung SyncMaster S20B300 Screen Resolution 1600 X 900 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Razor DeathAdder PSU Ultra X4 750 watt fully modular Case Thermaltake Overseer RX 1 full tower Cooling Core-Contact 92 mm CPU Cooler Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 1TB (primary)

hi again bassfisher
nah its the first time its happened. its run fine over the last few months. with all the changes made. i re-did my cable management on the day it happened. but have been through it all with a fine tooth comb. it hasnt happened since. the surge protector that it was plugged into wasnt a very good one so i bought a belkin one off ebuyer yesterday. which has now replaced the cheapo one. saying that i dont think it cost any less than the new 1. it just wasnt branded.
its proppa confused me lol. i had the pc built in jan this yr, had no probs with it but wasnt happy with it so i scrapped evrythin apart from ram and gpu n started again in a new case. i havent had any probs with any of the components untill this. i thought it may have been a loose connection where the power swicth connectors connect to the mobo but that was ok. i re-did it all anyway just to b safe lol. touch wood it hasnt happend again yet
thanks for ur advice, much apreciated as usual http://www.ebuyer.com/product/45265 | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom build OS win7 home prem x64 SP1 CPU AMD Fx 6100 4.5GHz, 1.44v Motherboard Asus Crosshair V Formula 990fx Memory Corsair Vengeance1600 8GB (2x4) 9,9,9,24,2T Graphics Card Palit GTX670 Jetstream 2GB 2 way sli Sound Card Onboard SupremeFX X-Fi 2 Monitor(s) Displays Hanns G HL231, x2 Screen Resolution 3840X1080 Keyboard Coolermaster Quickfire Pro Mouse Cyborg MMO 7 PSU Corsair Ax 850 80plus Gold Case Corsair carbide 500R Cooling Corsair H100, 2 Cougar Vortex 120mm Hard Drives OCZ Agility3 120GB

Hm. I woulda guessed heat problem before going to a spike... how's your cooling?
Could it have been as simple as the new cable arrangement blocking an exhaust vent? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS W7 64bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition @3.9GHz Motherboard ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX AM3 Memory 8GB Corsair Vengeance 8GB PC15000 DDR3 1866MHz CL9 Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX 460 1GB DDR5 Sound Card ...On MB nvidia Monitor(s) Displays ..Samsung T260 Screen Resolution 1440 x 900 Keyboard walmart Mouse Kensington Expert Mouse "gods own trackball" PSU 750 W Case minitower, it's got a cool spider design on the front Cooling all the fans i can cram in, water cooled cpu Hard Drives 2x WD Caviar 320GB SATA-3G HD 7200/16MB/SATA-6G Raid 1 Internet Speed 30 Mb/s |
