Auto shut down / start up

Hi all, I have just upgraded from a Dell Lattitude 610 WinXP Pro Bios A06 to a Dell Studio 1558 Win7 pro Bios A11.

My question is this. Using my old setup I was able to start my computer at a predetermined time from a complete shutdown using setting in the power management that was in the Bios A06. This feature is not avaliable in the Bios A11.

Does anyone know how to accomplish this in my new setup? I have searched high and low for an answer to no avail. The best I can tell is that no such feature exists in Bios A11.

I tried the hibernate feature but that requires physical interaction to actually start up the computer from a complete shut down. The previous way was a set it and forget it with my computer up and running, loaded and ready to go every morning without touching it.

Any Bios A11 upgrade that would fix this or is this feature gone forever?

If anyone has experienced the same situation and found away to go back to the A06 startup feature I would really appriciate to learn how you did it.

    Thanks, TRoof

A startup from 'complete' shutdown has to be in the bios. If the MB maker doesnt provide the service, you ain't getting it. Sorry!
Bios settings aren't lengthy or difficult to check the options available so I assume that's not an issue.
You should find bios upgrades and instructions for putting them in at your models 'driver and downloads' area at dells site.

Thanks Margon for the reply. I guess I will have to hire a laid off engineer from silicon valley to turn on my computer at 5 am. I will check the Dell site but I think I was there before and came away empty.

So many things to check for when you purchase new equipment. And I thought car buying was a mine field.

I would like to wait awhile before I close this thread. Ya never no.

    Thank you Troof

that's not actually a feature I've ever noticed seeing in any bios. It's probably uncommon and not really available.
I checked the dell site for you. there is a bios upgrade but it only addresses an unrelated problem.

Hi Magron- FYI Here are a couple screen shots from my Dell 610 Bios A06 Not in my new Bios at all. You may have to enlarge them to read them.

Thanks for checking the Dell site. Didn't think it offered anything. Thanks, TRoof
