how to recover 0 bytes partition ?

One of my friend having a problem with his 500GB NTFS partition from 1TB WD hard disk, its showing 0 bytes and not accessible. the other 500GB NTFS doing fine.
he is currently using win XP x64. Please note its not his system drive.
