Default drive for reboot resets to DVD drive

I got my computer Dell XPS with Windows 7 Ultimate about a year ago. Shortly after I received it, it started failing on restart because it was defaulting to the DVD drive. I had to hit F12 EVERY reboot to successfully reboot.
Then, while fixing another problem (I don't remember the problem) the reboot issue suddenly disappeared only to reappear in July 2011.
I have once again tried to change the default to the hard drive to no avail. I updated the bios. No effect.
Is there a fix for this or am I forever tied to the F12 key?

Is it still under warranty? If so, contact Dell and get them to fix it.

"Software", not hardware. Plus the guys from India have tried (a lot) and most keep insisting reinstalling windows is the only way - their answer to every little problem. Given the machine came that way I somehow doubt reinstalling Windows will fix anything except my blood pressure a couple of notches higher. I will try again, but I doubt it will change anything.

To satisfy Dell you are going to have to restore to factory at some point I'm sure. Once you do and the problem still exists, then you can beat on them to fix or replace it. I would escalate and ask to speak to a supervisor and if no satisfaction as to speak to that persons supervisor.
