    That's still slow even a laptop drive should be able to push between 24 and 48x just for raw speed.

    There's still something geeky going on even with that improvement.

    Why all the fetish with speed, I find recordings are always very good at half speed, never had a failure.

    Using DVD-R 8X record at 4X, full film about 13 mins.(nero9)

    Not exactly a speed fetish. You are copying 4.5 GB in 13 minutes. I am copy 700MB in 20 minutes. That just seems very slooooooooow.

    Maybe I should try copying a DVD for comparison. I don't think I have any blanks however.
