You could try getting rid of .net framework but it may be needed for other programs.

dllhost.exe is often used by web services so was just try to eliminate possible causes. Intresting read on this blog about COM Surrogate
The Old New Thing : What does the COM Surrogate do and why does it always stop working?

But you did say you uninstalled the third party codecs

Remove Windows Search? Doesn't hurt to try any of these things since you can easily reverse the changes.

dllhost.exe is used by any DLL-based app.

You might want to try a different antivirus or disable the one you're using and try openning the folder again.
So I think we can say that I've tried all that when I used the "diagnostic statup" option.

Indeed go ahead and do another installation...funny how the alternative solution(reinstall) will take alot less time that you have spent on this Ryan!

Yep it seems to me that the reinstall is imanite...since you are willing too...than go ahead as this will surely fix the issue
Yes I think I'll do that to. I was trying to find the answer anyway just to know ... but I'll reinstall for two reasons, this one and the issue on the startmenu.

    Thanks anyway.

One last thing, uncheck this for the drive containing the folder if not already.

    Just done, didn't change anything.
I prefer that anyway, indexing is useful.

Not really, because I'll have to reinstall everything then. And since I didn't format my computer since a very long time I have many things installed on it. Games etc etc ... so it will take one day or two to have everything back.
+ I want to know why I have this problem, I can't format each time I have the same problem

But you still haven't and may never figure it out. After reinstall, do the folder "test". Also, do it after installing each program or change made to the system.

If you don't want reinstall, maybe you can circumvent the problem by changing the view settings of the folder to show list instead of icons.
