    strange icon

    Hello,

I've got the following issue: When I delete any folder from library e.g. "video library" the folder including e.g. some movie gets a strange icon. It contains some lock icon in the lower left corner of the folder icon. Why is it so ? Hope, you can help me with that.

The lock indicates that the folder is a junction point and as such should not be deleted.

A junction point is a virtual folder that allows software designed for older operating systems to still function correctly with the Windows 7 folder heirarchy.

For example, My Documents in XP becomes Users in Windows 7 so legacy documents will be pointed to the Users folder.

It's all tied in with the way Libraries work. Libraries don’t actually store files, but instead they point to where files are stored.

Thanks for your answer, I also had a quick look at link you sent me, but I didn't find there what I wanted. I know how libraries work and how to add files to them and so on ... but how can I get that folder with lock icon in the lower left corner to look normally again ? I mean how to get rid of that lock icon, I want that folder icon to look like others. Thanks.

The lock does not indicate a junction point. It merely indicates that it is a private folder not shared with anybody.

But other folders with standard look aren't shared with anyone too and in spite of that they don't contain any lock icon. Do you have any idea how to make it looking normally ?

Actually it means that the folder was once shared and now is not. This results from it having been in a library and you then removing it. You might like to read this thread which will tell you the ways to remove it. How to remove lock icon over my folder
