    How to restore gifs to open with the default file viewer?


    They're now opening with Internet Explorer. Can someone tell me how to restore gifs (in Windows 7) to open with the default Windows file viewer?

    You can use the below tutorial and select the program you want to open .gif files with.

    I tried that and it doesn't list Windows Photo Viewer.

    Hello Ashley,

    In addition, you could also download and merge the GIF option in the tutorial below to restore all of it's default associations. :)

    EDIT:
    However, the default viewer for gif files is Internet Explorer.

Hope this is the right section, but..... is there a way to get Windows Photo Viewer to play a GIF animation? The XP photo viewer had no problems with this, and i dont understand why microsoft didn't implement it in 7's version (unless they did, and im just stupid).
Default open file dailog not seen

Previously when I used to click on a torrent file link, I was shown a dialog box to open the file with a default program. Now it seems due to some wrong click on my part I don't see that dialog box for torrent files at all. Every time it asks me to save the file and then I have to Dbl-click on it...

So, I noticed that when I wanted to associate gifs with the photo viewer that the photo viewer was not selectable (as in, not displayed as a choice). We all know photo viewer in 7 is not an selectable executable program. I don't want to use a browser; that's dumb as hell. I'm not typing about...
