My laptop's built-in microphone is not working! Help!

I recently wiped my laptop clean and reinstalled with windows 7 and the driver for my built-in microphone is not showing up and I can not use my microphone in any program.

    I've tried updating everything.

    Help ?

You probably just need a driver.
Go to the computer makers website and search for them.
What kind of laptop is it specifically?

try downloading from majorgeeks.com the realtek software "Vista_Win7_R249" - it works for my acer 5920G which was having internal mic problems when I ugraded from Vista OS.

This issue has bee discussed on the DELL Forums and the solution is to load Vista drivers for the microphone. See this discussion

    http://en.community.dell.com/support.../19300261.aspx

Go to the DELL driver and download page for your 1530 and set OS for Vista and you should find what you need, or if your 1530 came with Vista your drivers will be on your Already installed CD

First timer on Forum. I have same problem on Dell XPS 1530 - laptop microphone unusable (picks up faintly because when I record/play back check I can barely hear sound.) Checked volume levels in Control Panel Sound -set to 80%. Video cam fine. Speakers work fine - checked playback with other sound bytes. All sound works fine with USB headset 0 both microphone & speakers. I'm trying to do Webex meetings, can hear others, but they can't hear me unless I enable the headset.
SPECS: Intel 2Duo Core T6400@2GHz; 4G RAM; 32 bit OS; NVIDIA GeForce 8400MGS; Windows 7 Ultimate 2009. Have check for latest updates on drivers. Don't know if it's an issue, but I have Skype installed and it is running as a process in Task Manger on auto start.
At my wits end. Hardware or software problem?
