Can anyone help re. available memory... Installed 4GB, available 2.75

    As title really.

I had to do a clean reinstall, before it was showing all 4GB of ram as usable but now only 2.75GB. It is 32 bit but was using all 4GB before on the same system.

I've been into msconfig and the boxes are unchecked, strange.

    Any other ideas please?

    TIA

Thirty-two bit cannot use all 4gigs without a special instruction set. Yours probably saw 3.25 gigs and the other missing RAM is probably for shared memory on the video card.

It is perfectly normal and there isnt anything you can do in 32 bit. You could upgrade to 64 to utilize the added RAM but 64 bit uses more resources so the move would probably be a wash. See the snip of my system. I have 4 gigs installed and my system can only see 3.3 of it

Thanks for the reply. I just thought it was strange as it has only been this way since I reinstalled 7. Oh well at least the laptop has been resurrected. I should probably go and get some work done now, haha.

Due to all of the questions about memory not being available there was an update, I believe, that reported the actual memory installed in windows, at the basic system screens - if you have re-installed (resurrected?), this laptop it may be that this has not been installed as yet, (it was an optional update IIRC). The update did not make the memory available but did prevent a lot of people believing that their memory was not working

Sorry do not have KB reference
