Hello Del, and welcome to Seven Forums.

As you now know, a factory restore formats the HDD and reinstall Windows 7 to how it was out of the box. Unless you backed them up to another drive or partition, or you had an option to create a backup while doing the factory restore and did it, your favorites are gone for good.

    Sorry for your loss.

In addition, your favorites in Internet Explorer are stored in your C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites folder. You could just copy and paste the contents to another location to back them up, and copy them back to restore.

What about 'Recuva'? I think the OS does a quick format before re-installing Windows. The files might actually still be on your disk. Piriform has a recovery product (free). Might be worth a try.
