Programs work when installed then don't work the next time I try

I'm not sure where this should be posted so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place.
I am a newbie to Windows 7 and don't know it I have a problem with my computer or just a lack of knowledge of Windows 7
I just purchased a 64 bit window 7 with the professional upgrade. I am using an Intel core 7 chip on a gigabyte motherboard with 12 gigs of memory. (more info if necessary).
I have installed my most used programs without issues (they were win 7 compatible). I have tried to install 2 program the were listed on the MS compatability list, one was Samsung PC studio for my cell phone and the other was Dacal CD Library 4.0 for my CD library on my CD Carousel.
They both installed with out incident and both ran fine the first time I used them.
I spent hours re-cataloguing my CDs..saved and backed up everything and the next time I tried to run CD Library nothing happened. I tried several methods to running it including setting the compatibly to XR or Vista. NOTHING worked. Even tried to uninstall and reinstalled it and still nothing would never run after the first time.
The same thing happed with Samsung PC Studio. Worked fine the first time and the next day the same thing; wouldn’t load…nothing nada.

I have tried to install other programs that weren’t Win 7 compatible and my computer would pop up tell me this program is not compatible with windows 7 and prevent me from continuing. So I am assuming if a program installs and works, it should be compatible and will work the next time I try to use it.
Sorry about being so wordy, but does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Just an off-the cuff suggestion, but have you tried right-clicking on the shortcuts to these programs and selecting "run in compatability mode"?

When you say the program is compatible, did you go to the Microsoft site and check to see if the program is compatible with 64-bit Win 7?

There are also two levels of compatibility at that site.
one level is where the software producer "claims" the product is compatible. The best level is where Microsoft has tested the product and Microsoft says the product is compatible.

When you visit the site, pay attention to the fine print shall we say:
    windows 7 Compatiblity Center

Now let's rule out one category, although I don't really think that this is your problem but such is possible.

There is a marvelous program for detecting malware and removing same from your computer. This product is recommended by all of us here (one of the few points where we all agree).

The product you want is MalwareBytes.

Please go to MalwareBytes.org to download malwarebytes and to no other location. There is a link in my sig for MalwareBytes.

    Now to another point.
System Specs need to be supplied via the method I list below. When you follow that procedure, then your specs go with you (see that small print "sytem specs" at bottom right of a post).
    Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
    (left-hand column)

To gather info, use SIW or Speccy or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
    “system manufacturer” block, for example,
    Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
    MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

Yes to Rt Clicking and running in compatibility mode I didn’t think I needed to because the 2 programs ran fine without problems the first time I used them, then they wouldn’t load the second time I tried to run them. At that time I tried to change the compatibility mode but nothing changed and they still wouldn't load.

I have checked Microsoft’s compatibility program site and for those program that were listed I followed their advice if any was given.

If a program is not listed does that mean I shouldn't use it or as I assume Microsoft just hasn't tested it. My thought was, if it doesn't work then I know its not compatible. Maybe that’s the wrong way to think with Window 7; again I am an ex XP fan and I am really flying by the seat of my pants with Win 7.

I believe my system specs are current and up to date using Speccy.

I’ll try the Malware program, but would be surprise if it tells me anything.

In summary my real question is if there is a compatibility issue would the program run the first time, test out ok by using it and then fail the next time I tried to use it? It would seem if there were compatibility issues it would fail right from the start.

I am going on Vacation Friday, and won’t be messing with this for a while. Since this is a new computer, I'll contact tech support when I return and have them check out the system just to make sure everything is in order. Thanks for all the advice and please keep the posts coming and I’ll respond when I return and maybe something will come up that I didn't know about.

    Thanks again

You might want to check this link to see if it throws up any compatibility issues.

Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs & Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads

I find that right-clicking the installer and choosing Run as Administrator sometimes helps. After you install the program and launch it for the first time, choose Run as Administrator again, which is sometimes all that Windows 7 needs to know the program is OK to run.

Ok I'm Back. After extensive testing of my system, I seem to have narrowed the problem down to the fact that my device might be a USB 1.0 device and is not recognized on my new computer. It works fine on my older computers, but when plugged into both my new laptop and desktop (both Windows 7 x64 systems) it isn’t seen. Even if I try running the software in Windows XP VPC mode, I get the same results. In XP VPC, my software asks me to turn on the device and plug it into the computer. I do and it isn’t seen. I have tried all my USB ports with the same results.

Has anyone had a problem like this? I haven’t had any problems with my other USB 2.0 devices not working, just this older 1.0 device.
