Its a virus, Download ESET NOD32 and Malwarebytes (google ftw) and download them and run scans

    Hello Nalinbhatt,

The EXE download in the tutorial below may be able to fix this for you. It restores the default EXE associations in Windows 7.

Default File Type Associations - Restore - Vista Forums

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Kaspersky fixed same issue

Same issue/virus here. It somehow snuck through Kaspersky (or I somehow had Kaspersky disabled (?))
Able to cheat and get IE running. I downloaded a trial version of the latest Kaspersky 2010 and when the computer rebooted, everything APPEARS to be OK...
Doing some deep scans and whatever other diagnostics are on Kaspersky and Windows. So far so good.
I noticed the virus even turned off options to Recover.

Brink... I Have solved my issue by following your instructions..... Thank you very much!!!

However, I did want to confirm, This is not a result of a virus, is it? I believe it was a mistake I made for being in a hurry while i tried to answer the phone.... Please Confirm....

I was online with the Norton Chat helpdesk and they were convinced it had to do with a virus.

Please clarify.. and once again, Thanks a Million

    (Clarification)
The issue of exe files associated with windows media center....

You're most welcome Rey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It could have been caused by a virus, but it could also be due to a mistake accidently made using "Open with". It would not hurt anything to scan your system at boot with Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper to help make sure it's clean. :)
