Renamed new text file too .reg but it won't execute, why is this?

I need to add this registry

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\lnsfw]
"MaxSPIEntries"=dword:00000200

I created a new text document and pasted it in then I saved and renamed the file .reg and double clicked it, it just opens though and will not add to the registry. Whats the problem?

solved it.

Solution: go to Folder Options and uncheck "hide edtensions for known file types". This allowed me to see that the actual file name was .reg.txt
