Anyone tried Windows 7 on Netbooks? I just purchased an ASUS EEE 1005HAB from Best Buy today 299 for a 2 gig one on sale. Looking at reviews this is one of the best out there and the deal was to good to pass up for me.
It comes with windows xp SP3 on it, however Im not happy about that So I was wondering if anyone here has done windows 7 on a netbook and what kind of experience you might have.
Do you think it will perform slower than XP? I've see one report that its on par with XP with Aero enabled.
I was thinking of adding in a USB Readyboost to it and seeing how it goes, but want to get some input first. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 7264 CPU AMD Phenon X4955 Black Edition 3.2 Quad Core Motherboard ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard Memory 8GB CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Graphics Card SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Exp 2.0 16x Sound Card Onboard Asus Monitor(s) Displays Hanns G 28" Widscreen Baby! XP is faster. With modern systems there is a point of diminishing returns, but netbooks are slow and clunky but most any standards. XP is very noticably faster than 7 on an Atom-based netbook. Here are some benchmarks to back that up. I'm not using compressing files or encoding music, but even browsing the net is a much snappier experience in XP. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 RC CPU Q9550 Motherboard GA-P35-DS3L Memory 4GB DDR2 Graphics Card MSI 4870 1GB PSU 500W StealthXStream Case Cooler Master CM-690 Cooling Tuniq Tower 120 + Stock case cooling |

I wouldn't say those tests back up your statement as win 7 won the real world tests and xp won the synthetic tests. Here is another test more closely related Windows 7 versus Windows XP on the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Netbook | My System Specs | | |

I had Windows XP on my EEE PC 900 and have installed Windows 7 on it and i'm finding it runs far better on it. The WIFI seams more stable on it and it caches data far better so it runs more smoothly. No aero of course. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7 x64 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 @ 3.2 GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 Memory 4 Gig Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4870 Sound Card Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 226BW Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 PSU Antec TruePower TP-550 Case Antec P180 Cooling Zalman CNPS9700, 3 Antec TriCool 120mm |

I'm running Windows 7 on an OCZ Vertex on my Dell Mini 10 and a RunCore 32GB SSD on my Mini 9 (upped RAM on both to 2GB). It runs flawlessly and almost as fast as Windows 7 on a spinning HDD on a real laptop.

I have a Dell Mini 9 with 2 gigs (upgraded) and a Runcore 32 gb SSD, with 7 installed and it works as well as my x64 core i7 desktop. The original XP install was very slow to boot up and use, mostly due to the atrociously slow original 8 gig SSD the Mini 9 had. So I think that if XP works well on your netbook, I'm sure 7 will as well. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CPU Core i7 920 Motherboard ASUS P6T SE Memory 12GB 1600mhz Corsair Graphics Card Gainward Geforce GTX 570 GLH Sound Card Phonic Firefly 302+ FW EXT Monitor(s) Displays 2x BenQ E2200HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech diNovo Mouse Logitech Performance PSU Corsair 650W Case Silverstone TJ-05 Anyone tried Windows 7 on Netbooks? problems?
