No problem with upgrading but clean install is usually prefered. that is because you dont want to import any problems from your last OS.
Installing on C:\ is fine

tomorrow you may have todo some housekeeping but it usually goes ok

What version (build) of win 7 did you install?

You will find out that common opinion here in SevenForums is to do a clean install. I am one of those who, like you, did an upgrade install. I´ve been happy, my first try to make a clean install (RC build 7100) backfired, a lot of my rigs drivers didn´t work.

Second try, I installed first Vista Ultimate 64-bit, updated it until there were no more updates, installed all the Vista drivers for my internal and external devices, and only then upgraded to Win7 64-bit. That way everything works, have had only a couple minor issues and one crash, but that was my own fault because I tried to install software which I knew to be not compatible with Win7.

Good luck with your installation. Bedtime for me.

FWIW, I've tested the installation option fairly extensively (5 or 6 different scenarios). I find that the cleaner your Vista installation is, the better that the upgrade will go.

An upgrade on a squeaky clean, new install of Vista SP1 worked very well for me (but other upgrades didn't work as well), I presume that it has to do with the 3rd party stuff that's installed after Vista is installed.

I would suggest running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before upgrading - this will give you some idea of what to expect:

I had driver issues when installing over a "mature" Vista installation. But there's issues with drivers (particularly storage drivers) in Win7.

I've also had issues with some of my apps, particularly those that load drivers.

The point here being that there's no way to tell if it's gonna be successful unless you try it. If it's too full of problems for you, backup your stuff and do a clean install.

Windows 7 Ultimate RC 1 x86

Having a vista upgraded to seven rc1 and later upgraded to the final release is the right thing to do?... It`s like too much.
I think dual -vista and seven- booting is the way to go, waiting for the rtm version to hit the market. Then, you can do an upgrade over vista, or make a clean install...
