Windows 7: Save in last location

Is it possible to "Save In Last Location" without changing the "Default Save Location" from then on?
I would like to see the same location (destination) in the "Save As" Pop Up box, every time I edit each picture, for any individual session.... see picture below for the string of actions that I have to go through each time.

When I edit the next picture, the "Save As" Pop Up box reverts back to the Nikon103.

You can do it with MS Office docs:
How to Change the Default Save Location for Word 2010 – When you click on File, Open, if Word does not remember to open Windows Explorer where you last were (i.e. doesn’t save that Explorer location).

Don't know if you can do it with other apps.

This is not exactly the same thing, because you're not opening Windows Explorer at your last 'saved location' - but think of these shortcuts as similar work-arounds until you find the actual solution --- and they're actually also very useful shorcuts:

Clicking Alt + Left Arrow takes you back to your last location

Clicking Alt + Right Arrow –after you’ve gone back to your last location, it takes you back to where you originally were.

I have tried your suggestion with Clicking Alt + Left Arrow, but I'm probably not doing something correctly.
The picture below shows where I am with regards to trying to save the next picture in same location as the last edited, renamed and saved picture.

I had just saved Royce SID nds (highlighted blue in my WIP folder). I want to save the next edited and renamed picture (Royce SID f) in the same WIP folder, but the Save As pop up box has reverted back to the 103Nikon location.
I have to navigate back down to the WIP folder rather than the application remembering the last location.

Apologies if I'm not explaining this very well - or indeed repeating myself.

This is implemented on a per-application basis. So, it looks like Windows Photo Editor implements a "save in current location of picture" methodology.

Personally, I'd kill two birds with one stone here and use a different/better photo editor. I'd suggest one but there are tons out there and everyone likes something different.

I am beginning to discover the limitations of Windows Photo Editor. It was however ”free" software included with my new HP Pavilion Desktop - so I was trying to use it regardless.

You’re quite correct that I would be better off with something like Paint Shop Pro (which I used on my old XP P.C.) or Paint.NET, which has been recommended.

If you use MS Office you've already got a fabulous photo editor right on your system - Microsoft Office Picture Manager (or its predecessor Photo Editor)!
