So I'm gonna keep 7229 till it dies. One Question...

I've been very happy and content with build 7229 ever since it was leaked. and since I don't have the bucks right now to get a legit copy I'm planning to keep it as my OS until I get the money or it times out.

My question is, will I get the same windows updates that the RTM guys will get? I checked the Windows Update history and I can't see one update to the system (no security or stability update). lots of updates to defender, office and silverlight is what there is. BTW, I don't consider getting a non-legit RTM as an option for me.

    thanks.

    No.

That's about all you'll get with an unofficially released build.

Really its up to M$. Microsoft has the right to give updates to anyone they see fit, though frankly, this is a leaked build that MS has no obligation to support.

If you want important updates from MS I would suggest sticking with the RC (build 7100)

thanks for the fast replies guys. too bad becuase I really like this build, but anyways...

I try to download the 64Bit RC but I get an error and can't eventually download it. also there's a certificate error at the download page:

something is not right in Redmond. any other safe ways to get it?

    thanks for all the help.

    edit.
Also, I've no access to the hash page anymore. there's any change of getting the hashes for the 64Bit English RC?
I would've loved to get the RTM on release date, but unfortunately money's the issue right now.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. I'm getting a security certificate error from the main Windows 7 RC download page.

profile.microsoft.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate expired on 7/30/2009 5:53 PM.

    (Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)
It may just be that they are about to close the download for the RC on the 20th of August or they haven't updated a new one yet.

    Ok, downloading now...
the error I referred to was that I hadn't created an exception rule in Windows Firewall
thanks Airbot and jc4gavejc for the help.
