C:\system.sav

Can the C:\SYSTEM.SAV folder be deleted? I am unable to find out what it is & what it's used for. It seems to be something specific to HP and/or Compaq. It's about 60MB, 1% of the volume size; maybe shouldn't worry about it.

Should be this here: Registry Hives (Windows)

I have a HP but no such file ?!?
If it's a leftover from installation, CCleaner might have kicked it

A hunch tells me it's safe to delete - if you want to be sure you could simply rename it for now or move it to another folder or drive. Just for kicks, what's inside?

Not related to Registry. Folders & files.
CCleaner doesn't clean them.

Most of the file dates are prior to my receiving the laptop. Mostly log files & batch files, 8 folders, 230 files. When I started for the 1st time, it went through a 1st time install. There is a Tools partition & a Recovery partition in addition to the 2 Windows partitions. Probably something related to when HP loaded the OS image.

It's probably safe to delete. Will rename directory & see what happens over the next few days.

Just found this little info at the Hp communities page:
HTML Code:
 http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-HP-ProBook-EliteBook/Can-I-remove-c-system-sav-and-c-SWSetup-after-Windows-7/td-p/2345175

"The system.sav folder is specific to Compaq/HP systems. As there are differences in the restore procedure in different models of Compaq/HP systems, it's best advisable to refer the user manual to know if those folders can be deleted. In mosts cases, you should not, unless you're 100% sure that you possess the OEM Restore CD (different from a OEM Recovery CD).

Having said that, please contact the OEM support for more accurate information in this regard."

So I've left mine. I spotted it in passing as my anti-virus software scanned it as part of a full scan and was also curious what it was for!

Hope this helps! (if the topic is even still an issue)
