Probably, there is something more going on than you just described here.

Try Win+R and type explorer in the Run window and hit enter.

If unsuccessful, Ctrl+Shift+Esc - Application tab - New task - type explorer in the window and hit enter.

You might need to do a startup repair install. Load the DVD, then when the Install Windows screen pops up there should be a Repair option in the lower left hand corner. This method is listed in the tutorials section of this forum.

Hello Necroticis,

I agree that something else may be wrong here since restarting the computer would usually always start explorer.exe again with it.

If Windows is starting and getting a blank screen afterwards, then as a test, press the CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE keys to open Task Manager. In Task Manager, click on File (menu bar) and New Task (Run), then type explorer and press Enter.

Does explorer work again afterwards?

If not or Windows is not starting and just getting a blank screen, then restart the computer and boot into the Advanced Boot Options screen, and select the Last Know Good Configuration (advanced) option and press Enter to see if that may help.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
