No you must reinstall the programs. You can retrieve your files from windows.old, then after you make sure you have everything delete it using Disk Cleanup.

Can you use the buttons on your monitor?

Check the Dell Support Downloads webpage for your tag number to see if there is software for this or anything else you want from the original factory install.

    Good work, Sean.

Keep an eye open for optional Windows Updates which provides newer drivers and is fully trustworthy in Win7, which unlike XP is the authority on its own drivers.

Are there any other missing drivers in Device Manager?

How is overall performance? Monitor the logs and system resources following these troubleshooting steps

I got this error after a power cut. My custom built PC was in hibernation at the time. To fix it i changed a setting in the bios.

Off the top of my head i think it was asetting to do with the HDD, changing it from IDE to ACHAI?

Anyway, that has worked for me twice.

EDIT: Yeah, missed exactly how old this thread was. It always comes up top in google for me though.
Anyone else with this issue now has another option for a fix at least...

To change WIn7 from IDE to AHCI requires extra steps given here: AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 / Vista - Windows 7 Forums

Well, not in my case. I go into my bios, change the setting and that's it. I had to do it earlier today. I found this thread while searching for a solution as i couldn't remember what i did last time. Then it came back to me, i changed the setting, and it worked instantly.
