Standby vs Sleep?

Hey guys I know the difference between sleep and hibernate but whats the differance between sleep and standby?

I usually put my computer into sleep but I just downloaded a desktop widget that I really like that lets me put my computer into "stand by", "shut down", "restart", "hibernate" or "log off" but not sleep so I was just wondering if theres a difference between pressing stand by on the widget or pressing sleep once I hit the arrow next to shutdown on the bottom left? I tried putting it in standby and it seemed to do pretty much the same thing as sleep but the little crescent moon symbol on my Lenovo didn't light up so I'm not sure...

thanks...

When I used XPsp3 on my 2004 DELL, they called it Standby. Now I have a WIN7 2011 DELL and it's called Sleep. Either way the same thing happens.

BSODs, usually when going into standby/sleep
My system was 100% rock-solid for almost two years, but it's started acting up in the past month or so. I get a BSOD every time I try to put the computer into standby mode, and once or twice it's crashed while I was trying to watch a movie or working. 3GB Mushkin DDR3 10666 EVGA x58 E756 (I...

Need help setting Standby/Sleep from Welcome or Logon Screen
Managing 4 PC's in a common use area. The PC's are set to log out after 15 minutes of idle. At this welcome screen though, I'd like to set the PC's to go into standby after 20 minutes. What setting do I need to adjust to accomplish this? I know in the registry the .DEFAULT user manages the...

BSOD problems after standby or sleep
Even since I purchased my laptop, I've been getting a "bluescreen error" message after having to turn on my computer from a long standby or sleep mode (be it leaving the computer for a couple of hours, or simply shutting it and going to bed) I've updated drivers and BIOS, and the only driver that...

BSOD problems with standby and sleep
Even since I purchased my laptop, I've been getting BSOD's when I go to "wake up" my laptop by either opening it or moving the mouse. This occurs usually after it has been in "sleep" mode due to closing the notebook, or letting it sit in standby for a while. I've updated drivers and BIOS, and the...

S3 Standby/Sleep not even available but S1 and S4 are?
I am testing Windows 7 RC on an old Dell Optiplex GX260 with a 3.06 Ghz CPU and about 1.5 GB RAM. So far I've been very impressed at how well it runs on this old box! My biggest challenge has been getting S3 Standby (Sleep) to work. Unlike most posts I've found on the net, my challenge is that S3...
