History of the Start Menu - perhaps some comments?

Microsoft Explains Why the Start Menu Needed to Die | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

I don't use it much at all now apart from having a Control Panel item as I have a GodMode shortcut and use other means to open my favorite apps. I see no mention of the non-scrolling Program display which I'm sure many of us used, I did on XP, and it was a whole lot easier than the current Windows 7 set-up or the scrolling one.

    My Usage

I occasionally use the "Start Menu Search".

I have pinned to the "Taskbar":

    • Computer Management.
    • Control Panel (with pinned Jump List entries).
    • Windows Explorer (with pinned Jump List entries).
    • Notepad++.
    • My Firefox Profile Selection batch file.

I have pinned to the "Start Menu":

    • 2 System Cleaners.
    • IE9.
    • Firefox (standard shortcut).
    • Command Prompt.
    • FreeCommander.
    • Macrium Reflect Free.
    • Regedit.
    • Run VMware Workstation and Services batch file.
    • Calculator.
    • GIMP.
    • Paint.
    • 2 media players (e.g. 1 for music & 1 for video).
    • Solitaire.

The rest of my programs are in "All Programs" (obviously) including ones that don't install and therefore don't create "Start Menu" shortcuts (which I create myself).
My "All Programs" menu has been categorised to reduce clutter (see animated gif below).

The "Start Menu" is of more use to me, than the Windows 8 Metro screen.
