    I would try this:
    Advanced Boot Options

Select the option that says Last Known Good

If it wont' do that try this:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You might also have been able to restore it this way:

Open Task Manager, go to Processes, highlight 'explorer.exe' and click on End Process. Then, go back into Task Manager, and in File section, select New Task (Run). Type explorer.exe (or C:\Windows\explorer.exe) in the Run box (it may be there already). Below the command, it should say: This task will be run with Administrator privileges. Click Okay.

    Explorer.exe

I cannot get Explorer.exe to stay in Task Manager. It keeps disappearing.
Networks are no longer displayed & the icon in the task bar has gone.
Have tried many methods advised on Google with no success.
Can any one please advise me what to do here?
    Thanks

Did you delete or completely block Cortana from running? If you did and didn't add StartisBack or Classic Shell then that could be your problem.

i would suggest that you repair it with the Windows 7 DVD. Insert the DVD and restart the system, boot into the DVD and wait for Windows to load files.
