As it stands now, I have no desire to purchase windows 7. I have purchased 2 Vista PCs since its release, 1 32 bit and 1 64 bit and have had problems with neither, in fact I much prefer vista over XP. I just bought a gaming rig in June (I was unaware of windows 7 and the cutoff date for free upgrade). And I am not finding any reason to spend $120 on the upgrade. What makes windows 7 better than vista? Because I find very few things that would make it worth the upgrade.

Well dude it's whatever you make it out to be. If you've tested it before, it's really nice, to be honest. You can shuffle pictures as a slideshow(which makes your background change to your favorite pictures) it's faster than Vista, and on top of that, it's looks nice as well as it performs.

But don't take my word for it. /laugh

no reason to if you like vista. The 3 license family pack is only $150. I would try to go in on it with your family (roommates), close friends, distant friends, lost cousins, kissing cousins, ebay associates or your closest relatives on craigslist.

Though some of that may be against the license.

If you like what you've got - then stick with it.
If you're not satisfied with what you've got - then upgrade.

The first step is recognizing and admitting that a problem exists, or maybe, simply believing there might be a better way. It is not unreasonable to assume that you are at this forum for a reason.

Perhaps your browser's redirect feature is disabled.

yes, you're absolutely right, OP. i can't think of a reason to keep my software up to date either.

you'd best just stick with Vista for at least another 4 or 5 years, because new software technology rarely has anything to offer...

I think that is being a bit harsh. The hardest thing for most with keeping multiple computers up to date with Microsoft operating systems is the pricing. Prior to the family pack option with Windows 7...it was costly to buy multiple licenses to run on multiple computers. And even with the family pack, $150 is $150. Some people need that money for food, groceries, rent, etc.

As far as not staying up to date...Microsoft will be releasing patches via Windows update for many more years to come. It's not as if the OP would be unsupported if he chose to stick with Vista.

To the OP: Personally, I never made the upgrade to Vista from XP on my machines at home. I didn't feel that the price for the licensing was justified based on the performance of the system and all of the hardware requirements and problems at launch time. While Windows 7 is far more streamlined with great driver support, I'd say if you are happily running Vista and not experiencing a problem...I wouldn't even attempt to try to convince you that spending more money to get to Windows 7 would be a wise move.

The easiest way to know for sure would be to download the release candidate which is free and give that a shot. Personally I loved it when I tried it and will be putting 1 copy of Windows 7 onto a new box that I just assembled. My wife's laptop came with Vista and I have no intention whatsoever or changing this to Windows 7 as I haven't had 1 problem whatsoever and I have the super convenient system restore option right from HP if I decide to use it. My older box running XP, is going to move to Linux as it's free and I don't really have need for another Windows machine.

Honestly, whilst there are a whole host of improvements in Seven over Vista - Vista is still a good and stable OS.

A viable option for you would be to continue continue using Vista until the Seven upgrade discs drop in price.
