Un-install windows media player

Is it possible to do this? I've tried to make Winamp my default, but WMP keeps playing everything/ I've tried dis-associating WMP with all extension through set defaults, but apparently it's not taking.

thanks for any help

Thank you, however, both links you gave both associate WMP with WMC.

Thank you though,

Try going to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features\Turn Windows features on or off. See snip.

EDIT Something esle to try, go to C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86), navigate to Windows Media player folders. In each one rename all .exe files to exe.bak, this should prevent WMP from running, but you may get an error when trying to run a media file about no associated program.

I'll just have to deal with it, as one is dependent on the other..

I also tried to get rid of it for the same exact reason. I got the message about WMC being an integral part of W7.
