Try going to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features\Turn Windows features on or off. See snip.
EDIT Something esle to try, go to C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86), navigate to Windows Media player folders. In each one rename all .exe files to exe.bak, this should prevent WMP from running, but you may get an error when trying to run a media file about no associated program.
