Screen Saver works while other applications are gone and locked

I'm using Windows 7 and I got problem on my desktop. Screen Saver is the only thing that is functioning while all other programs are not available even the start menu. Could this be due to a virus or just a little mistake on its setting? I tried to check problem on desktop properties but when I clicked it, nothing happens. No properties window appear. It seems like applications are no longer accessible. How can I fix it? Please help.

What is actually happening ? After you start windows up, it starts up as regular; but you cannot click your mouse anywhere ? So , after the normal waiting time, screensaver appears ?

If so, are you sure that the problem is not in your mouse ? Can you check it with an alternative one ?

If I am assuming the situation wrongly, can you state what is actually happening when you click on the start button, or any of your desktop icons, or simply a right click on the desktop ?

EDIT : Can you please fill up your system specs, for a better understanding of your issues ?

    I am using Windows 7 on a Wide-Screen monitor 21' (64 bit)

When I restarted my PC, only the screensaver is available on the desktop and the icons are gone. Even if I RIGHT CLICK>PERSONALIZED, nothing happens after clicking. The START tab on the taskbar is also gone. I tried to open MS WORD by using RIGHT CLICK>NEW>APPLICATION NAME but still nothing happens. It seems like it's locked and only the screensaver functions. Please help. Could this be due to a virus?

The screensaver is running from when the windows is started up ?

Can you boot in Safe Mode (use the method one of the tutorial) and check what is happening there ?

At the same time, as you are thinking it may be virus issue, you may try it : http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivir...cue-Disk.shtml

Boot from the Kaspersky Rescue Disk to scan and remove threats from an infected computer without the risk of infecting other files or computers.

Burn this ISO image to a CD, insert it into the infected system's CD-ROM drive, enter the PC's BIOS, set it to boot from the CD and reboot the computer.
