Most likely to be left after some updates or temp files after downloads. See if it's associated with some program , if not - you can delete it.

I agree with BisVal.

It may have been used as a temporary cache while an update or download was installed. Try opening the folder and if there's nothing in it just delete it if it's bothering you.

The Windows Malicious Software Removal tool sometimes leaves these scattered in the root of your drives. As Seavixen said delete it if it is empty.

It is a leftover from some installer. Safe to delete.

Thanks to you all. I have been curious about those for a long time. I have been hesistant to delete files ever since the early 1990's when I deleted my DOS folder to free up some space. I didn't know a PC could come to a halt quite so quick.

Now you're showing your age bigmck!

I started with Windows 3.1 and never did live down the fact I deleted all the program icons from the desktop because it looked untidy!

My boss didn't speak to me for a week. Happy days.

These files in the root of the system drive are normally temporary files relating to updates to windows defender and the like. they should be deleted as part of the update process.

It should be OK to delete them but to be safe I would move them somewhere, (in documents?), and run for a day or so to make sure that nothing breaks

+1 to Barman. I have some files in Klingon too, but they don't hurt anything, of course until I'd delete them.

Drive in 'User' folder, 'Location' tab in drive properties
*How this came about* I tried to move my Music library, but instead of including the 'Music' folder in F:\ drive, I included the drive itself. I promptly included the 'Music' folder in F:\ and set it as the default location, then removed F:\ from the Music library locations. However......

How to change appdata/temp folder from C drive to D drive
This is basically to reduce writing to the C drive. Say I want to install a 4gb game, the installer may unpack data/cab files to the C drive, then delete it after the installation is complete. This means I have just basically written 4gb of data onto my SSD. I DO NOT want that to happen. I...

can't create new folder on one drive
Hello. I'm not sure which section of the forum to post this. For some reason in Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100) I don't have the option to create a new folder in the root of one mapped domain network drive. What's weird is that with all of my other network drives I can, and I can make new folders in...
