    Windows Home Premium boots with Num Lock enabled -- How can I change

    Hi all
    I've got one laptop running W7 Home Premium (Somy Vaio PCG 71911m) which always boots with num lock enabled.

    Since I often use different keyboards is there any way to disable this on boot or turn it off automatically.

    The BIOS surprisingly doesn't seem to have an option for this --most laptops I've used in the pass had a setting in the Bios to turn this off at boot.

    Cheers

    Start>run>regedit>HKey_current_user>control panel>keyboard>"InitialKeyboardIndicators"

    0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
    1 = Disable Num Lock.
    2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

    Actually my machine seems to simply remember the last state in which it was on: if I have the Num Lock enabled before I power down the machine, it will boot with it enabled, but if I turn it off before shutting down it will boot up with Num Lock off next time.

    Also, on my Sony Vaio laptop there are some "Sony Tools" pre-installed, one of them has a control box for Num Lock behavior at start-up, I don't remember off-hand which one exactly, will let you know when I boot up the laptop later today.

    Toggle Keys at Startup - Vista Forums (Works in Win 7 - as suggested by Brink in a previous post)

    While powering up computer, QUICKLY, at START of Windows ICON screen, KEEP TAPPING the DELETE Key, with Right Arrow, go to ADVANCED, with arrow go to BOOT CONFIGURE, with arrow go to NUM LOCK, hit Off or On, hit F10 key to Save and Exit

    For those WITHOUT A BIOS setting:
    Registry > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard\
    Set InitialKeyboardIndicators to 0 for off, 1 for disable, 2 for on.

    Lots of good information that I never knew. I myself don't have a problem pushing one key one time to lock the numbers but I did learn from your post, thank you.

    You would turn numlock off in the bios.
