I deleted these registry entries, and it worked. However, several application's icons are not showing up such as Thunderbird's email notifications. Will applications show up again with time, or will they have to be reinstalled to make the notification icons reappear?

Also, after removing the entries the Action Center icon disappeared. I also could not re-enable it at the "Turn system icons on or off" Control Panel settings screen. However, it eventually showed back up and I can enable it or disable it as before. Strange.

Edit: Okay, Thunderbird just showed up. Looks like it may take a few hours/days, but it appears to be re-populating with the correct icons.
