Windows 7: restored laptop to factory settings cant open downloaded files

Do you wish to use the Recovery Partition or Disks to recover to factory condition, or use a Win7 installation DVD to clean reinstall now?

You would only wipe or delete the HD if the Recovery Partition is confirmed not to run and you have located and burned to DVD or written to flash stick the Win7 ISO file for your version and have it ready to reinstall following these steps I gave you: Reinstalling Windows 7

If you ran Factory Recovery and it failed before, have you tried running it again? HP Backup and Recovery Manager

There are some tricks we can help you with to force it to run if it won't. And if the Recovery disks will not install a satisfactory installation after running them again, then your best bet is to clean reinstall with a Win7 installer you've located, to a wiped HD so that any corrupt code is overwritten: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

i tried using the hp disks that hp sent me to reinstall windows 7 (to factory settings) and they also sent me a suppliment disk - cost me 33, all was fine after I booted from the cd - I pursumed that it had worked as everything started a fresh , but then when i tried to download file a from internet (firefox - webrowser), it downloaded, but then when i went to open the programe it said "file curupt", also tried it will google chrome and the same thing happend, also tried try to download bios from offical hp website, looked like it had downloaded, but then wen i went to open it "curupt file" flashed up, I also had a copy of malwarebytes (that was on a stick) and it went to open it and "curput file "came up.
Do you think that i have a virus or something on the harddrive that cant be wiped off, also is there a programe that i can download via my friends computer that i can put on a usb stick/cd that will look through computer and delete virus, that dosent have to download things from the internet, also another problem i have is that i use a dongle - mobile broadband, so internet connection is not good for downloading

I know im asking alot and Im VERY gratefully for all the help, also im not a computer professional, so it does take me time to understand things sometime.

If you wipe the HD using the tutorial in my last post before running Recovery or a Clean Reinstall then there won't be any possibility of infection remaining on the HD.

Why would you worry about wiping the HD affecting your data if you just ran Recovery Disks which overwrote everything anyway? Keep your data backed up externally, of course.

Try running Factory Recovery from the disks again. , check download situation between each step you take to set it up so you can isolate what is causing the behavior you report.

Let us know what you find out.

If you still can boot into the OS, try running SFC -SCANNOW Command several times if it finds corrupted System files. Next try a Repair Install which requires using a Win7 installation DVD for your version so you should strongly consider next doing the superior clean reinstall which we can help troubleshoot better with certainty it will get installed. Reinstalling Windows 7

Exactly how are you running Factory Recovery? Have you tried more than one method (partition from boot, disks)?

What step does it fail exactly, and what is the full text of the error message?

As a last resort after trying all Factory Recovery methods, wipe the HD before running Recovery disks using tutorial steps given earlier using Diskpart, or use free DBAN or Partition Wizard CD from boot. Back up your data first and a Win7 backup image if you want to keep the crippled OS. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

You say it worked fine until you installed Firefox. Does this mean other installers worked before that?

What exactly did you do before this occurred? Are there System Restore
points along the way so you can work backward through them sequentially to see if Firefox installer works?

If you ran Factory Recovery again then your HD was reformatted but not cleaned. We can try that next after seeing if you can isolate exactly what you did that might have triggered installer failure here.

Again the process is to check installer performance after each step you take after Recovery, to see what you are doing that is causing the problem. Only other things could be a boot-sector virus needing wiped, hardware problems if this happens at all times after reinstall, or some problem with the factory image which can be checked by clean reinstalling with the Win7 installation DVD: Reinstalling Windows 7
