I couldn't agree more rraod, but with profit margins so thin in computer hardware manufacturing these days I suppose manufacturer's cut corners where they can.

If nothing else, my experience has given me another weapon in my fault-finding armoury. :)

Good to know Andy. We see a lot of "It can't be my <new hardware>, I just bought it", read, "So I won't accept any suggestions to the contrary". A suggestion to unplug something will at least be a non-destructive test after some steps have been exhausted.

I have two optical drives too for the same reason, the ease in making copies. One is a Bluray burner and the other a DVD combo, both SATA.

    Hi All,

I spent almost 15 years as a computer tech. One of the first things I taught the new guys was to start with the newest equipment first. Sometimes new "equipment" isn't always installed inside the computer... A client had an air cleaner installed; next to a previously functioning computer. They called us and long story short it was the air cleaner.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Hi Eric.

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

How right you are. One of the most memorable entries I saw in an aircraft maintenance record was: "Pilot changed. Aircraft Assessed Serviceable."
