Slow login for Admin users - Desktop Window Manager error

Right, I have been driven mad by an odd problem with logging into Windows 7. After a clean build following a major upgrade it now shows the "Welcome" page for around 10 seconds before loading the desktop after entering my password. Interestingly this only happens to accounts with admin privileges - if I set myself as a normal user login is instant, also the delay happens after making a new "admin" account - again the delay goes away after this test account is set as a normal user.

After disabling everything but the basic services it still occurs, I have also updated all my drivers. The only difference in the logs between admin and user accounts is the occurrence of an error from Desktop window manager - you can also see the delay in the login process. Googling the error doesn't shed much light.

Any help would be appreciated as it's frustrating that after a major upgrade I'm worse off when it comes to logging in. Performance apart from this issue is fine, no issues with aero etc.

Same here. Regular users logon in 5 seconds. Admin account type users take about 2 minutes ! Wish I knew what was up.

Do you have a Gigabyte motherboard, if so did you install all of the utilities on the supplied CD? If so: Slow login (10-15 secs) to Windows 7 Home Premium - Microsoft Answers

I'm going to try tonight as I have a Gigabyte mobo and the above symptoms. The DWM error might be something else.

Hi there. Yes, a GA-Z68AP-D3. Have installed all the Gigabyte utils. Shame the linked thread does not say which util causes the issue. Will try removing some!

Just remove the lot, you don't need them. It's badly designed bloat, I just got lazy and clicked 'install all' when the CD loaded.
