Hey if anyone needs help, I made a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y42w01nUkhs

If you want to show off your work, record it and link us to the youtube video, I would like to see how all you guys are doing!

A new version is out, 7Slimmer MMX! (MMX is 2010 in Roman Numeral notation). Many improvements in terms of speed and usability. A plugin for vLite is added, and most importantly, there is only ONE executable

Happy new year!

First post on here, I was trying to find a guide through vLite or any other program to slim down my Windows 7 install. Any help would be awesome!

Hello Iamthebull, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

At the moment, Microsoft is not happy with the idea of us customizing our own installs. Just to be sure you know about it, future updates and service packs may not install for you if you remove parts of the Operating System. Vlite development ended with SP1. That said, Vlite is purty much self explanatory. Is there something specific you want explained?

Cheers!

i've always been wary of using these lite builds because if i understand correctly it can cause system instability after some updates.

Guys, I was very sorry if I bring this old post up again. But I seriously need some rookie guys from you pros to tweak my laptop..

I bought my own laptop 2 months ago, and it was fantastic as it was the 1st "high end" gadget I got since I was born.. Its very responsive and fast.. From the boot up time, programs responsiveness to shut down time.. It just take 22sec to boot and 8 sec to shut down..

But as time goes, after I install this and that, it start to slow down.. liek 40sec.. SO I did a search on google and found that I can actually yweak the boot up to utilize both cores.. But then my comp crashes.. BSOD and now my comp seem to messed up after recovery.. I cant install SPTD nor Daemon Tool..

SO I have a few questions now :

1) I was wondering is it possible to edit my very own Windows 7 from acer recovery disc?
2) With my current configuration, will tweaking allow me to see any performance changes?
3) Is the slow down cause by the programs and games I installed? Or when time goes on, it is the faith for computer to slwo down? (I hope to protect my computer in its tip top condition)
4) Can u pros guide me tweaking my WIndows 7 to the lightest it can be..

Thx a lot

Which is a popular myth which never actually did any such thing.
The biggest cause of slow downs is software, like anti-virues.

There is no tweaking necessary with Windows 7, which is as light as an OS can get.

It is obviously tweaking that has caused your your problems to begin with.

The only needed maintenance is CCleaner (Run Cleaner and Registry tab) and Auslogics Defraggers, state of the art cleaning/defragging tools used by the pros.

Watch your msconfig startup list to disable any Startup programs that don't absolutely need to be started up with the computer. I only allow AV, Gadgets and StikyNotes.

Clean reinstall using a clean-copy Windows 7 installer for your version which will activate using your OEM product key. Borrow or locate an installer, extract files to desktop, delete ei.cfg in Sources folder, recompile into an ISO to burn All-Versions DVD: Bootable ISO - Create from Installation Files

Any missing drivers (after optional Updates) or favorite applications can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (Reader, flash) and Java (runtime, Office) websites.

I am sure that my computer is 100% virus free. and I am using an antivirus which they said (I mean I did a search) is very lite, NOD32. It din slow much, just that the boot up time slower by 20sec.. Maybe I am sarcastic with that,, lol

Because they set all Services which absolutely don't have to run on Manual fast-triggers.

If you vLite it to remove Services, it won't run any leaner than installing a retail version - I know because I tried a dozen different Vlites over a year ago. Vlite it for size on netbooks only.

You asked how to edit the Acer Recov disk to make it lighter without bloatware. Instead I suggest how to use a clean-copy Windows 7 installer to clean reinstall which is what tech enthusiasts do to overcome bloatware corruption.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it is nonetheless the truth.

No! Thanks, this is what I want to hear!! I rather install the original one as I don't need to learn, sacrifice my time, and betting my laptop up for editing the OS!! Thanks a lot gregrocker..

But hey, there is still a bit of thing I wanna know, are there any option to maintain my boot up and shut down speed, even after I install some programs in it?

Thx ya
