Problems - Control Panel and Personalize do not open

I am running both the 32-bit W7 OS on one machine and the 64-bit OS on another machine. Love it!, BUT on the 32-bit machine a lot of commands don't seem to work. For example, when I click on Control Panel nothing happens. Same is true with Personalize. Anybody got any ideas what the problem is and how to fix it. I may be posting in the wrong place, but this seemed like as good a place as any.

Have you tried running the System File Checker? Type CMD.EXE in the search dialog box at the bottom of the Start Menu, hit Ctrl-Shift-Enter to Run as Administrator, then type SFC /SCANNOW at the DOS prompt.

are you running a 3rd party file manager that takes over for explorer?

I ran sfc /scannow as administrator and got back "no integrity violations" and yes, I am running a third party file manager "Directory Opus", but it is set to NOT replace explorer.
Any other ideas will be appreciated.

I checked Directory Opus and sure enough it was replacing Explorer. Once I fixed that and rebooted the problem was solved. Many thinks. CC

Windows 7 32-bit Contol Panel & My Computer don't open

I have a similar problem that is similar to the above and I ran the check that was noted and got some errors. I don't know where to go and I don't use any special explorer other than the stock.

This is preventing me from reinstalling necessary programs that I have.

    ryan,

Keep running SFC until you get a clean bill of health. If after 6 goes you still don't get a clean bill of health, you will probably need to do a repair install.
