Start Menu and desktop shortcuts - incorrect target.
Hello to anybody who is interested....
I recently fresh re-installed Windows 7 ultimate x64 to a 160GB hdd, I have a raid 5 setup to install programs and user data to, I have changed my default program files installation directory to the raid 5 without any problems,
via "%systemroot%\syswow64\regedit" HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion,
then changing the drive letter for 'CommonFilesDir', CommonFilesDir (x86), CommonW6432Dir', 'ProgramFilesDir', 'ProgramFilesDir (x86)', 'ProgramW6432Dir'
(eg. C:\Program Filesx86 is now R:\Program Filesx86 and C:\Program Files is now R:\Program Files, etc. Where R:\ is my raid array.
But there is one issue I am having,
When I install a new program,(not all but most) it is installed to R:\ by default but the start menu and desktop shortcuts still point to c:\Program files\blah blah. When I right -click the shortcuts in question and try to edit the target to look in R:\Program files\blah blah, hit apply, and ok, this does nothing and the target reverts back to c:\Program files\blah blah. The only way I know to correct this is delete these shortcuts and create new ones from the r:\program files\blah blah folder and drag and drop them into the start menu. Hopefully someone may know of a better way to fix this, as I am re-installing quite a few programs, and this method is annoying.
My Guess is it's something to do with the program data folder on the system drive, but from what I've read it's not wise to move this folder as it disturbs windows updates and other various issues??
