I don't have access to a file even though I'm the owner

I have a huge problem. I've been trying to download a resource pack for a program and it says
'you don't have write privileges to directory
C\Users\......Resources\Clipart\Rules'

But when I check in the Properties it says I'm the Owner.
I REALLY need to get this downloaded and have no idea what to do. Now I've been trying to delete the folder and start all over again, and of course I can't do that either. :(

can someone please help???
Thanks!
Jenny

In windows XP when you take the ownership of a folder or file, you will automatically get the full control permissions.

In windows 7 Microsoft has changed that. Just by taking ownership will not automatically give you the full control permissions. After taking ownershop of a folder/file, you have to manually assign yourself full control permissions to be able to use that folder for copying, creating or deleting files/subfolders.

I added Everyone, but it still doesn't work. The file is an application and this is where I'm trying to change the permissions, but nothing is working. It gets about 75% finished and then I get the error.

It shouldnt even start if you truly had no permissions...

Is it possible that your harddrive is full? Or very very close to full? (There may be some space that the OS reserves that you cannlt go over so that the OS remains stable in an out of disk situation)

Hm, can you manually copy a large file from somewhere else into that folder just using explorer? See if it starts copying then craps out 75% of the way into it or if it denies it instantly?

Depending on what the download is (one file via firefox, or some other program updating itself, etc), since it doesn't occur immediately, the problem might be with a different directory - IOW, the download/update/install consists of more than one file in more than one place. Can you point the DL to a different location, or is it fixed?

Dual-boot with Linux.
It's fixed. It's a resource file for a web editor - XSitePro. I've contacted support for them as well, but i really thought it might be a windows 7 problem. The program crashed and i had to reinstall it, and now I can't download the Resource pack that it needs.

I meant copy a test file from somewhere on your hard drive into the location you are trying to download into to see if you really do or do not have permissions.

But as Flemur says, depending on what program you are downloading with, most of them download into a temp location, then when finished, move it to the final location. It could be the temp location that has the permission problem. But if that was the case then you should be having problems with any download you make from that program (IE/FF etc).

What program are you using toDL the file? That might help...

ALso: try downloading specifically to someplace outside your user folder (and outside the programs folders), just like c:/temp or somthing in case your DL program is launching some kind of lower security downloader which can't have acess to your user folder...

Yes I can download a file into the folder and I even deleted the file. As far as downloading the file I either double click it or right click it and 'Run as admin'.

BTW, I like your sig!

Do you still have the same problem, if you create a folder somewhere else on your HDD and copy/download the file to it?
