Good day! Just to give you an update, I still have not upgraded my system yet (Thank God for that!) for we were hit by a typhoon recently and everything was flooded .

Anyway, I would once again ask your opinion of the rig I will be getting immediately (since my current rig is still full of mud and all ).

    What do you think of:

    Processor: i5 2500k
    Memory: 8GB RAM
    Graphics: 1GB Afox GTX550
Harddisk: 1TB HDD (SSD is out of the budget for now)
    MBoard: ECS H61H2-M2

other parts will be supplied but I listed the more important ones. I will be using this rig for mainly HD video edit.

I got the items from here http://www.gaisano-interpace.com/price.pdf since they are the most competitive seller here.

Also, if any of you could recommend an AMD counterpart, it would also be accepted since AMDs are generally cheaper than Intel

    thanks!

Not much to go on. No brand or details on the RAM or hard drive.

    Never heard of Afox.

ECS would not be my choice for a motherboard.

    Specs. look good.

Although, I do have some recommendations on the brands:

    Memory: Corsair, Kingston, GSkill
    MBoard: Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI
    Graphics: EVGA, XFX, MSI, ASUS

oh. Sorry for the generic details.

    Processor: i5 2500k
    Memory: 2 x 4GB Kingston DDR3 1333Mhz
    Graphics: 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX550Ti 128bit DDR3
    Harddisk: 1TB Samsung 7200 rpm
    MBoard: ECS H61H2-M2

please tell me if it still lacks something. Also, would the i5 2500k be the better choice against i7 2600? the i5 sandy bridge is still cheaper than the i7 2600.

    your thoughts please

Most people would tell you that the price differential between the 2500 and 2600 is not worth it. They are pretty close in performance and the 2600 is about $80 more in the US. If you get a K model processor, you could easily overclock the 2500K a bit to match the stock 2600 if you wanted to, but even without overclocking there isn't much difference.

I'd try to point you toward something other than ECS for the motherboard. Maybe Intel, Asus, or Gigabyte.

You don't mention a power supply. You don't need a lot of power, but I'd try to get a quality brand. It seems that it's difficult to get a high quality power supply in the Philippines---usually you just see unknown cheap brands for $20 or $30, normally supplied with the case. They are likely junk, but maybe you don't have much choice.

If youre buying K cpu you need motherboard with chipset that supports overclocking otherwise buy I5 2500 or even I5 2400 same thing just a bit lower clock.

this motherboards chip is H61 or so it seems it does not support overclocking so there is no point to buy K cpu.
    with i5 2500k cpu i recommend P67 or Z68 chip motherboards.

I'd go for the 2500k then. And thank you for the motherboard advice. Will try to look it up here.

And yes, PSUs are crap here. Or atleast from where I'm from. It is very hard to find quality if not, average quality PSUs.

I have ZERO knowledge on overclocking so I will take this into consideration. But will a stock 2500k sweep the floor against a stock 2500? Is it a considerable difference?

The 2600 is only worth the extra cost if you use applications that can take advantage of Hyperthreading, and use them often.
One example would be Encoding 1080P videos, although there are other uses for it just not as common.

For the most part, games will not use it.

So for a General Use/Gaming PC .. its likely not worth it.

The main use for this rig is to edit 1080P videos. I've already passed the stage where I was a hardcore gamer. And that was the time when counter strike was the lord . It has been many years now. The only game I play right now is a browser game

If you were to choose, 2500k or 2600?

if you dont do overclock i5 2500k is waste of money its same as i5 2500
only difference expect oveclocking is on chip VGA but if you use pcie vga you dont need that.
