Times New Roman Font Issue with Win 7

There seems to be an issue with the Times New Roman font on Windows 7 and it is a big problem where I work.
We have many documents that have a "checkbox" in them to allow someone to manually put a check mark in them.
These check boxes where put in using the Times new roman font symbols.
206D is the alt code.
Apparently the new version of times in Windows 7 has changed some of the character map so that 206D is now a space.
I know this because I have looked at 2 computers, one with WinXP and one with Windows 7. Both have Office 2007. The XP machine prints the checkboxes and the Windows 7 machine does not.
I have tried installing the old version of Times in Windows 7 but it doesnt make a differance.
If I have someone add a check box in Windows 7 then in XP there are 2 checkboxes that show and the formatting is a bit off.
I figure the easiest thing to do is copy the xp ver of the times font to Windows 7 but I'm having difficulty with that. A message says that I am over writing what is there but
it doesnt seem to be.
There are many documents affected by this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
