First attempt here, so I'm sure someone will direct me to the correct forum. But until then:
Totally lost my password a month ago. At least, that's what I think happened. Sounds strange as I don't remember changing it recently, but I'm sticking with my alibi. After trying everything in the English dictionary, I gave in and reset/removed the password. Now, in normal mode the built-in admin account is the only one I can get into Windows with, and it's pretty restricted. Can't change or create users, programs, settings, anything. In safe mode I can get into Windows with my other account, but nothing I change to fix the problem works (temp setting that gets flushed every time I log-off. I've tried fixing a corrupt registry/profile with no luck. Get the "User Profile Service" error when trying to log on with any other accounts, safe mode or standard. At desktop, I have a black screen and minimal to no shortcut icons. Get the message that there's something wrong with "Desktop" and it's unavailable, no matter who or how I try. Also get a message that I've been logged on with the "default profile...." and my hands are tied at that point. Everything has been scanned multiple times with different programs and using different firewalls (one at a time for the programs and firewalls) and nothing ever turns up. I guess it could be a bug of some type, and my gut tells me it's something I screwed up or deleted. Not sure what else would shed more light on my little adventure, so let me know and I can forward any logs/reports a or system information that might be of use.
