    FWIW, before a clean install, it is a very good idea to go to the manufacturers site and download the drivers for your motherboard, network, video and audio (make sure you select the correct ones for your windows version). Put them on a USB stick so that after your initial install of windows, you can then insert the usb stick and load all the necessary drivers. Makes life so much simpler.

    As you have an HP computer check your C drive to see whether you have a folder named swsetup.

    If you do, it should have all HP's drivers and applications that came pre-installed with the computer.

    Did you follow Brink's advice to wipe the HD before clean installing Win7? Clean with Diskpart Command

    This gives you a clean slate from possible corrupt Vista.

    You onlly need to leave the Product Key blank until after install, then do the quick registry workaround from Brink's second post: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
