Files won't stay pinned on the taskbar. Any advice?

    Hello Everyone,

I am not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I like to pin different folders to the windows explorer icon that is on my task bar for example.

I don't know why, but after some time Windows 7 removes the files that are pinned to the icon.

Why is that? A bug? Fixable?

Thank you all for your help and advice.

Don't know if this will help, but you could try this: When you edit the Properties of a pinned file or program, the icon may not stick, try FIRST making a pinnable shortcut on the Desktop, then change its icon, then pin it.

Hello mrje1, and welcome Seven Forums.

Your jump lists may have gotten corrupted. You might see if resetting the jump lists may help afterwards.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hello Shawn and Imperfect1,

Sorry for the late reply here. Thank you Shawn it is a pleasure to be apart of the community.

    I didn't try Imperfect1 advice yet and I will.

Shawn the Resetting of the jump lists didn't work. I tried the BAT File and I restarted the computer and it didn't clear out my Jump lists.

Also, I tried the command prompt one and all I get is The system cannot find the path specified. So for some reason it is not working for me.

Once again, my pinned items that I put with Windows Explorer Icon on my taskbar has been removed again. I am not sure what is the problem or what the bug is? Hopefullly I can get this fixed or know more jump listing on the WE anymore.

Actually Imperfect1, now that I think about it. The only problem I am having is not with any other icons or programs on the taskbar. The problem is only with the Window Explorer jump lists pinned items that keep getting removed automatically.

With that said, should I continue on with your advice.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hello Everyone,

After doing some more research I found a possible fix. I downloaded an update From Here--http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2607576

Then I went to this folder C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations and I deleted this 1b4dd67f29cb1962.automaticDestinations-ms to clean out the jump list.

So I will see if this solved my problem. So stay tuned. I will probably give it a couple of weeks to make sure the problem has been solved. Again, stay tuned my friends..........

    Mrje,

I'm not sure if that will help or not since that's what the tutorial I posted above does that you said didn't help.

I know this may be silly, but are you actually pinning the item in the jump list like in step 5 of OPTION ONE in the tutorial below?

Taskbar - Pin or Unpin a Program

    Hi Brink,

Thank you very much for your help. For some reason when I tried the tutorial it wasn't deleting any pinned items when I ran the batch or the command. It didn't seem like it was clearing it out etc. When I tried the manual way or the way I described above, it worked.

So far I am not having any problems and the pinned items have not been removed yet. I guess will see. I will wait a week more and make my final conclusion.

The question about pinning, I have pinned that way yes, but I have also dragged icons to the task bar icon as well. I also have right clicked and pinned, so I have used each method in the tutorial.

Thank you again and if there is anything else that I missed please don't hesitate to answer.
