Comp only showing half memory

Hi
I was trying to redistribute my memory on my MSI laptop, so I downloaded Paragon Partition Manager and set it to run, unfortunately the comp crashed part the way through and I was unable to reload windows, i kept asking for a recovery disc which I didn't have, so I ran the recovery on the start menu, black screen, option f3. Unfortunately it is now showing only half of my 500gb memory, only 50 gb in C and only 200 in D drive. Can anyone please help.
Thank you so much in advance
Patri

The Disk Management screen will be of huge help. For the record and future reference, memory and hard drive space are two completely different things. In your question, you are refering to hard drive space.

Thank you again Patri

Windows 7 - Vista

Hi -

Thank you for the screenshot. It speaks volumes.

It does show a 500 GB HDD (decimal; Windows shows it as 465.76 GB binary - Windows v. HDD Mfg HDD specs/ size)

The 4 partitions -
Code:
  7.81 GB = Recovery
 43.95 GB = OS drive c:
213.52 GB = unallocated; likely "raw"
200.48 GB = drive d:
―――――――――
465.76 GB = Total
Your HDD is intact - but it has a 214 GB void in the middle of it.

I doubt file recovery is possible from the 214 GB raw area; others may have ideas.

A few options -
1. Back up your remaining personal files & use the Recovery Partition to reinstall Windows 7 and return the partitions to their original size
2. Format the 214 GB partition, assign it a drive letter and use it - start w/ step #2 - Partition or Volume - Create New

However, choosing #2 will leave you with a small and inadequately sized OS drive c: = 44 GB.

What was your original goal when you used Paragon Partition Manager?

Regards. . .

Thank you so much for your help

I was trying to move some of the capacity from drive D to drive C as I had completely used up the memory in drive C apart from a few Mb. Therefore I wasn't able to run virtually anything, whereas D had about 400 Gb with very little used.
I'm sorry to be a pain but I'm not sure how to go about doing what you suggest.
Thank you again for your help

First thing I would try is download Partition Wizard Bootable CD from this page:
Free Download Magic Partition Manager Software - Partition Wizard Online

Burn the CD using Imgburn
The Official ImgBurn Website

If you have external drive(s) it's a good idea to back up your system as an image to recover from disaster. You can use Macrium Reflect Free, Easus ToDo Backup or other
free software. You can find other choices on thefreecountry.com: Free Programmers' Resources, Free Webmasters' Resources, Free Security Resources

Once you make backup images, I would boot the Partition Wizard CD and attempt to do partition repair. See Partition Wizard site for tutorials.

Here's the thing, I've owned several copies of Paragon Drive Backup. They claim Vista and later NTFS support. But every time I tried any features that alter the partition setup, such as making a backup capsule on Vista, my partition setup got errors.

Don't use it for Vista or Windows 7. I had no problems using Paragon on XP. But I would say just stick with Partition Wizard as I've heard about no inherent issues using it.

If you can get things back the way they were before, then use Partition Wizard to expand your C: partition. It takes some time but it's a good idea every time you change anything on your partitions to do a backup at every point where the system seems to be working correctly. Also if you're in a bind you want to get back to the current state where the system is at least bootable in case things deteriorate.

There's a good chance Partition Wizard can fix you up with no loss of data. But make the backups just to be safe.

Just in passing, if this is a single-boot Win7 system it's now a bit strange looking. The fact that the "boot, page file and crash dump" are located on D almost suggests to me that this is where the Win7 OS is actually located (even though it's name is "DATA"). The "active system" C partition (which is currently 45GB large with 19GB free) is ordinarily the 100MB "System Reserved" with no drive letter, on a brand new installed system on an empty hard drive.

And yet, there's no 100MB "system reserved" with no drive letter. And instead we have a 45GB "active" partition, but the page file is not there! It's certainly possible to relocate the page file, but did OP do that??

I wonder if this is/was an original or current dual-boot system also involving WinXP, or perhaps an upgrade from a WinXP? Did Win7 get installed as a second OS? Is there a boot manager menu involved?

Lots of questions for OP.

Nevertheless it's absolutely true that the current large 200GB of "unallocated" is just that... unallocated at the moment, and therefore no drive letter and not yet available for any use. It will not become available for storage and be given a drive letter until use of the "create partition" function of either DISKMGMT.MSC, or Partition Wizard, etc., creating a new partition in that currently unallocated space on the drive.
