Windows 7: Where is Windows 8?

The OP's 'power saving' post states "I installed Windows 7 64-bit Build 7600.16399-0900722-1835"

i seem to remember people saying the exact same thing about vista when that came out. If your expecting 7 to be far superior to vista atm then thats bad. Having said that. Compared to this stage at vista development 7 is a MASSIVE improvement over that. Give it time. Vista imho was not any good until at least service pack 1.

Win7 Build 7600 x86

it's like every first,
not only an OS but Software, Hardware, Cars, Planes, TV's, Camera's, Rockets, you name it.

It's the price of innovation.
The first are seldomly the best, but it's the first step to better.

We seem to accept first version application flaws a lot easier than that of an OS.

There are hundreds of thousands different systems, setups and SW configs out there, which means there are billions of different variables.

One can't expect MS to have them all in house to test on.

That's where we come in.

When we get the well known message, "send this information to Microsoft" , let's all click it for a change.

That's the fastest way of getting things fixed.

XP took 9 years to become what it is today.

I was perfectly satisfied running Vista SP2. I never had a problem with it. It ran fast, no freezes. It was very responsive. It helped that I have an up to date computer but I'm not seeing the dramatic improvement people say they're seeing.

I'm having problems with Outlook, Internet connectivity, the power save mode I mentioned earlier. If safe mode had sound, I would use it. I can't be the only one feeling this way. The more and more I use it, the more it reminds me of Vista, the bad days of it. I could be overly dramatic, but it's not fun when you're working and the screen goes black. That has to be the most annoying thing to deal with. Maybe it's just me, but judging from the looks this forum, I'm not.
Those types of problems all relate to drivers not being made for Windows 7. How can we expect the drivers to be perfect if Windows 7 hasn't even been officially released yet? Your problems will simply vanish as the WHQL certification process moves along.

Vista isn't a disaster. The OP even said he was perfectly satisfied with running Vista SP2. Besides, 7 as we know it wouldn't have been possible without Vista to build upon.

With you 100% there. Windows 7, when it is realized by the Public, will be a hit. If anyone thinks there is hype now, wait until early October. This will be Microsoft's iPhone moment.

Quoted for truth.

Been using Windows 7 since Build 7000 as my main OS and comparing that experience with the Vista beta experience that I went through a few years ago. It almost feels like its a completely different company working on it. haha.

This is a classic Windows ME situation. Vista being ME that is and 7 being its savior, XP.

Windows 7 64 bit

Okay some people took me a litte too seriously when I said where's Windows 8? It was taken to be a joke, but what someone said before could be correct. Some applications just aren't up to speed yet, and for that reason, that's why I'm having issues. I just have to be careful what I say here before I get slammed. In addition to that, I did state what issues I was having if you read what I wrote.

I have two computers that are exactly the same, one running Vista SP2 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit, the one presented on July 22, 2009. As of right now, the Vista outperforms Windows 7. That's right now, and that's all I was trying to say. Hopefully as time goes by, it will improve, but it's far from being leaps and bounds better than Vista. I'll keep silent now. Thanks for the input.

We dont need Windows 8 just yet and I think the next OS will be substantially different to any version of Windows that has gone before.
Excuse me, but I understand perfectly. Maybe I should have used a better choice of words, but damn. Some of the people just takes things way too seriously. Windows 7 is the most stable OS, I never denied, but keep in the mind what that statement means. That's like saying this is the best E and J Brandy they've ever produced.
