That means your drive is full.

The red bar means it's full, but the OP asked about the cross. I think that means it's a network drive that was disconnected?

    Welcome aboard, Shashi

Very known case :) Imageres.dll corrupted.

Icon group 36 (system drive) is changed to 35 , 32 (drive) is changed to 31, and 37 (dvd drive) is changed to 36.

Iconpackager I guess. If not, it should hyperdesk or alienware theme .

Download Win7 orig. IconPack inst X86 by ~Mr-Ragnarok on deviantART and apply it. You will get everything back to right place. But in future, be cautious of using these programs.

Your system is not in trouble. This icon is actually the icon of disconnected network drive. Somehow you have got your imageres.dll file (the file which stores all the system icons; iconpackager is a known guilty); and that is why it is showing the wrong one, alongwith a few of other system icons.

If you apply the trick I posted above, it will be solved then and there ... after a restart.

This is very likely. After applying the fix above, you should be fine.
