    where'd my documents go?

I backed up my Vista machine with the "backup and restore" utility, and after installing Win 7 did the same to restore. Now all but about 7 documents are gone from "my documents". Since I have at least a few of them I wonder if the rest are somewhere? Where might they be?

    Thanks!!

That's why I don't trust "backup and restore" utility. I just use a separate partition for data only.

Open up where you saved the backup and manually going through each backup catalog to find your documents.
They'll be there somewhere so long as it's the restore that's failed and not the backup.
I had to do it once before, 175GB worth, it was a monumental pain in the arse!

EDIT Of course now i do the sensible thing and partition my HDD

Hard Disks are dirt cheap these days. I can pickup a 1TB Seagate for under R1000. I find it safer to keep data on a physically seperate HDD instead of a single drive that has been partitioned.

yeah all my personal files are on a separate hard drive so if I need to suddenly format because of some problem, I can.
