How can I change the keyboard type

I have bought a new computer with Windows 7 Premium Home 64-bit OS pre-installed. I made the mistake of specifying my keyboard type as US during the initial setup. I need to change it to Japanese type. I followed the steps mentioned in the help documentation to select the desired keyboard type after clicking the Change Keyboard button on the Keyboard Settings window. But it did not work. I am unable to enter Japanese text through my keyboard. Kindly help!

    Step-by-step:

    1.) Click your Start Orb
    2.) Click Control Panel
3.) In "Category" mode, click "Change Keyboards or other input methods" below Clock, Language, and Region
4.) On the small screen that pops up, click the "Change Keyboards" button
5.) Near the middle-right side of the next screen that pops up, click the "Add" button
6.) Find Japanese, click the "+" sign next to it.
7.) Click the "+" next to "Keyboard" and check the checkbox next to Japanese
    8.) Click OK.
9.) On the next screen, change your default input language at the top, and once again, click Ok.

    Hi there
go to Regional / Language settings in the control panle.
As well as Keyboard you have to change INPUT LANGUAGE.
Change that to Japanese (or whatever language you need) and then it will work.

Note of course that if you are using a keyboard different from the input language you'll have to ensure the correct key stroke combinations are entered from your keyboard.

For example while in Belgium I'm having to use one of those HORRIBLE (unless you are French speaking) AZERTY keyboards

    I still need to input some icelandic characters such as these þ - Þ. æ - Æ. ð - Ð. ö - Ö. í - Í. ú - Ú. ý - Ý. é - É. á - Á.

Setting the input language to Icelandic makes the text inputting easier as you can type the text using the standard layout whatever the physical keyboard.

    Cheers
