Hi and welcome to SevenForums.
We'll be glad to help you but we need details. A lot more details. My mind reader is currently out of commission. - What can you tell us about your system and its specifications?
- Are you trying to shut down via the Start menu or by pressing the power button on your machine?
- Have you always had this problem or did it start recently?
- What does this screen saying "Press ESC for setup" menu look like exactly? Is it a window on the desktop, or a black screen with grey DOS-style text?
- Does it appear immediately or only after some moments during the shutdown process?
- How do you turn off the computer if you're not intending to just restart it?

That was my thought too, but if that's the case then it should go away automatically after a few moments. If it didn't, it would mean the BIOS is hanging and not completing POST, and it would never manage to reboot into Windows.
There's no indication of this being the case. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom-built OS Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, overclocked to 2.7GHz Motherboard Asus PL5D2 Memory 4GB DDR2-667 (4x1GB in dual-channel config) Graphics Card nVidia GeForce 9800 GT Sound Card Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic Monitor(s) Displays Acer Screen Resolution 1920x1200 (DVI) Keyboard Standard Mouse Microsoft wireless optical mouse PSU Antec TruePower 2.0 Case Cooler Master Centurion Cooling various fans Hard Drives OCZ SSD Vertex Plus 60GB SATA (Firmware 3.55), 64MB cache

There's no indication of this being the case. That's what I thought as well. But I definitely looks like a BIOS message | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number ACER ASPIRE 5742G OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1 CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz Motherboard Acer Aspire 5742G Memory 4,00 GB Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series Sound Card (1) AMD High Definition Audio Device (2) Realtek High Defi Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 x 32 bits (4294967296 colors) @ 60 Hz Hard Drives WDC WD5000BEVT-22ZAT0 |

Probably not.

- I'm trying to shut down from the start menu.
- It started recently.
- It's a black screen.
- Appears some moments during the shut down or restart process.
- This happens when restarting and shutdown. I just push the power button and boot it up manually.
