Print Spooler Service Is Not Working

    Hi,

    both of my printers:

    HP 1022
    Canon IP4300

Have stopped showing in any documents that I want to print from such as PDF Acrobat and Outlook 2010 and any other. They state that I don't have any installed but if I look in control panel then the HP is there but under unspecified and the canon has a yellow triangle.

    Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
If I try to print I get 2 things.

    1) The active domain directory services is currently unavailable
    2) If I try to add a printer I get the message "Windows can't open add printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the machine".

    Done that with no solution.

If I go into services I can start it but after \i reboot the PC it reverts back to being switched off.

    Any ideas please?

Have a look at this tutorial that explains how to reset the Print Spooler queue.

Print Spooler Queue - Clear and Reset

The problem can also occur if dependencies that the print spooler needs are not configured correctly.

In Services.msc, right-click Print Spooler and click Properties.

    Click the Dependencies tab.

The first box lists the services that must be running for Print Spooler to start.

Note each service and click OK.

Start each service upon which Print Spooler is dependent if it is not already started.

If not, right-click the service and choose Properties and select Automatic.

If none of the above works you may need to re-install or update the printer drivers.

Guys. Make sure to delete the files in C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers. A lot of people suggest to delete the files in C:\windows\system32\spool\printer but that didn't do the cut for me. My problem was keep getting message "printer spooling not working" something like that. I've tried so many but the one that solved my problem was to delete the files in /drivers and reinstall the driver for my printer. To reinstall the driver, you just simple go to "devices and printer" under start menu -> double click your printer -> click on "printer" -> "properties" -> "print test page". Then it will say the driver is not installed in your computer and ask you if you wanna install it. Then click yes and voila! It will solve the problem. Good luck and email me if you still have any problem. snuvet75@hotmail.com

Fixed - Local Printer Spooler Service not working on Windows 7

I tried a number of 'solutions' to this problem including 'Stop Spooler Start Spooler' but was told that access was denied even though I am the Administrator.

Then tried to delete all files in the Windows/System32/spool/PRINTERS/ but was told that a file was open in printfilterpipelinesvc.exe.

Not knowing just how crucial this file was, but noticing that it was created at the time that I began getting the error message, assumed that it was not essential, so renamed it.

Success! The print spooler started up and remained on, instead of stopping immediately afterwards. My printer also appeared under Devices and Printers whereas it had disappeared at the start of the error message. I didn't have to do anything further. The printer worked and all is well.

I had tried to reinstall the printer, but got the same message re the printer spooler service not working.

Prior to all of this I had downloaded and installed Acrobat Reader X and a McAfee scanner. Both were uninstalled in case they were the culprits, but nothing changed.

Now all is well, so hope this will help someone.

    Resolved click here!!

Simply go to this link, follow the steps, it actually works, and takes as long as it takes for you to type a few strings in control prompt, but you will have to re-add all of your printers (shouldnt be too hard) after the fact, your computer will forget them.

I deleted the printer directory, and it worked.

I had the same problem after installing the Acrobat flash player (11.7.700.225). I deleted Windows/System32/spool/PRINTERS/ entirely and it started working again. In the printers directory, there were two files relating to flash player. I don't know how it related to the flash player installment, but it seems there are some relationships.

Finally I solved my problem by using this

Search Services.msc in start menu and click on it, right-click Print Spooler and click Properties then click start, Print Spooler will start,
Again right-click Print Spooler and choose Propertie and select Automatic.
