Help trying to get windows 7

I am trying to get win 7 to let me update my files and restore my quickbooks from my old computer to my new computer. Everywhere I go I am stopped by a popup that says I do not have permission to use this file. I have right clicked an changed the permissions etc. I apparently am not bright enough to understand. Would someone really akami post a step by step procedure that will allow me to do my books> Please help if you can

Can you provide a bit more detail about this setup.

Have you removed the hard drive from your old computer and installed it as a second drive in your new computer? Or not?

If not, how are you trying to physically access the drive in your old computer? Are both machines on your LAN, and you're trying to "share" the folders/files from that old machine with your new machine... via network?

Is the old hard drive formatted NTFS or FAT32?

Are you using the same Windows user login on the new machine as you had on the old machine?

It's just a few steps to "take ownership" of that old drive (and all its folders/files) as the administrator (i.e. primary user) on the new Win7 machine. But the details on your current physical configuration and some background on how you established your new machine environment from your old machine would be very useful.

In the meantime you might read this tutorial on "how to add TAKE OWNERSHIP to the right-click context menu".
